Operational & Safety Excellence Manager service

Duration: 6 Month from January to June 2017, with an option to prolong 2 x 3 months.
In 2015, Our client started the implementation of an Operational & Safety Excellence (O&SE) program in its operational departments. First a Safety Wave (Safety Excellence Wave) was launched, which is now fully in its roll-out phase. In Q3 2016, a Quality & Efficiency wave was started.
In order to accompany this transformation our internal structure has been modified. Functions for 4 zonal O&SE managers and 1 Governance O&SE managers have been created. Currently, one of the 4 zonal O&SE managers is vacant. Pending an internal mutation to fill this vacancy, our central governance O&SE manager, has taken up the role of local O&SE manager for 50% of his available time.
In order to be able to fully execute the foreseen activities of the central governance O&SE manager, external temporary support in order to fully deploy the O&SE project is necessary.

Your responsibility:

  • The employee will Report Directly to the O&SE Governance Manager.
  • The main tasks will be to further manage the ongoing O&SE Project:
  • General Project Management for the ongoing O&SE Project:

    • Planning of meetings, ensuring that workshops take place and produce results, identifying the needs for support and organizing that support
    • Support Project Communication
    • Preparation and follow up of Project meetings & Steerco meetings
    • Establish, with the help of the project team and local managers The People Impact analyses and change plans, under the lead of the O&SE Project Manager.
    • General Support of the O&SE Governance Manager
  • Coordinate and implement the Quality & Efficiency wave
    • Follow up & Challenge of the different levers defined in the Efficiency and Quality Wave, with the respective Owners.
    • Determine KPI’s and execute a follow up.
    • Make sure all stakeholders are involved
    • Monthly reporting on the Steerco
    • Challenge implementation plan
      • Second, deliver administrative support for the O&SE Governance manager

        • Preparation & reporting of monthly handshake meetings: making sure all presentations are available, quality check on the presentations
        • Other ad hoc assignments: Prepare presentations, support for workshops and other meetings, preparation of communication (no screens)
      • Furthermore, the operational tasks performed by local Zone managers will need to be executed for the national teams. This contains two main dimensions
        • Operational Dialogue & continuous improvement

          • Driving the process: Planning of meetings, ensuring that workshops take place and produce results, identifying the needs for support and organizing that support, ensuring that the operational dialogue takes place, organizing and execution of reviews and audits.
          • Organizing the project communication in the National Teams: towards management, personnel, …
          • Represent the zone in the O&SE handshake (headed by O&SE Governance Manager): define priorities forward, define new waves, work on transversal actions,  prepare the audit, ..
  • Performance management

    • Has a regular dialogue with the operational managers about the dashboards and improvement initiatives
    • Gives support to the operational managers in the implementation & follow-up of the improvement initiatives
    • Works closely with zone manager to ensure activities are aligned with Assets strategy
      • Last, depending on the workload and the subject at hand, general support with O&SE related improvement projects can also be required.

Your profile

  • More than 8 years’ experience in

    • General project management
    • Improvement projects (Lean Six Sigma experience      is a plus)
    • Change management
  • Microsoft office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, …)
    Presentation skills
    Assertive enough to challenge Operational managers
  • Able to challenge the business
  • Having an analytical approach
  • Having good communication skills
  • Having a “can do” mentality
  • Meticulous and persistant.
  • Ideally bilingual FR/NL or good basic knowledge in the other. Furthermore, good knowledge of English is a plus.
